Abby Covert

Information Architect

Clearleft Says

Abby Covert is a long time friend of Clearleft, having first met us at the IA Summit. Her new book, How to Make Sense of Any Mess, is simply amazing, and a must read for any UX designers out there. She’s single handedly brought the field of IA from the brink of obscurity and placed it firmly at the center of the UX mantelpiece, where it truly belongs.

How to Make Sense of Any Mess

In a world where everything is getting more complex and we are all experiencing personal information overload, there is a growing need to understand the tools and processes that are used to make sense of complex subjects and situations. These tools aren’t hard to learn or even tough to implement but they are also not part of many people’s education. Information Architecture is a practice of making sense. A set of principles, lessons and tools to help anyone make sense of anything. Whether you are – a student or professional, a designer, technologist or small business owner, an intern or executive – learn how information architecture can help you make sense of your next endeavour.

Information Architecture for Everybody

No matter what your job or mission in life: if you are working with other people you are dealing with information architecture. Information Architecture is the way that we arrange the parts of something to make it understandable. Whether it is determining the labels for your products and services or creating navigational systems to help users move through a complex ecosystem of marketing channels, everybody architects information.

The concepts one has to understand to practice information architecture thoughtfully are not hard to learn or based on expensive tools. In fact they are tools and concepts we at the Information Architecture Institute think everybody should know. This half day workshop is meant to introduce the concepts of IA and give you confidence in practicing IA yourself.
